چکیده

An investigation has been made to find out the impact of channel variance mismatch to the performance serial turbo codes (SCCC) equipping with talwar penalty function over impulsive channels. The impulsive noise channel is blamed to be the culprit of signal impairment and causes severe performance degradation to modern SCCC which traditionally has been designed to perform optimally in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. Undoubtedly, it is a major limiting factors for systems such as Powerline Communication Channel (PLC), digital subscriber line (DSL) and digital TV. SCCC have been proven to approach Shannon Capacity bound in Gaussian channel. The constituent decoders are implemented using the logMAP and MAX-LOG-MAP algorithms. It is shown that serial turbo decoders with talwar penalty function that are implemented with the LOG-MAP algorithm are sensitive to varying channel variance, where underestimation and overestimation are almost equally detrimental over impulsive noise channel. On the other hand, the performance of the MAX-LOG-MAP based serial turbo with decoders with talwar penalty function exhibit complete independence with respect to errors in the variance estimate in impulsive channel. The study also found that using talwar penalty function can significantly improve decoding capabilities of SCCC in impulse noise channel under varying channel variance environment. Therefore Shannon predicted excellent performance of turbo codes can be perfectly obtained from such impulsive channel.

Robust, Low Complexity LLRs for Interference Mitigation in Reuse-1 OFDM

In this work we consider the performance of turbo coded OFDM systems in the presence of co-channel interference (CCI) in reuse-1 OFDM systems such as 802.16d/e and LTE. Because of frequency selectivity and diversity mapping, CCI does not affect all the subcarriers of the desired user. Hence CCI behaves like Narrow Band Interference(NBI) with the number of affected subcarriers ranging from 10% t...

A Robust Distributed Estimation Algorithm under Alpha-Stable Noise Condition

Robust adaptive estimation of unknown parameter has been an important issue in recent years for reliable operation in the distributed networks. The conventional adaptive estimation algorithms that rely on mean square error (MSE) criterion exhibit good performance in the presence of Gaussian noise, but their performance drastically decreases under impulsive noise. In this paper, we propose a rob...

Non-binary turbo-coded physical-layer network coding on impulsive noise channels

ELECT Non-binary turbo codes promise excellent performance for a wide range of applications and environments, but research in this area is sparse. The performance of a non-binary turbo code defined in GF (4) on a two-way wireless relay channel (TWRC) employing physical-layer network coding, which is affected by impulsive noise is investigated. Simulation results for binary and non-binary turbo ...

Influence of Trellis Termination Methods on Turbo Codes Performances over Middleton Class-a Channels

Turbo codes occupy a special place in the field of wireless communications for their outstanding performances in correcting errors that appear on transmission channels. This paper analyzes the influence of trellis termination methods on turbo codes performances, over a channel affected by impulsive noise and Binary Phase-Shift Keying modulation. The statistical model used for the impulsive nois...
